It's coming up sunflowers - the art of Mary Rezny
When I returned from vacation I barely recognized my office! Mary Rezny’s art had magically appeared on my walls. Mary is a photo-mixed media artist based in Lexington since 1976. Her studio/gallery is in the Distillery District where she exhibits her current art and also features a rotating display of art from established and emerging artists for the community to enjoy. Her art is exhibited regionally in galleries and juried exhibitions and is included in the permanent collections of the Art Museum and the Little Fine Art Library, both at the University of Kentucky. Her art can also be viewed in several public art projects, the “Art in Motion” contemporary bus shelter at 3rd and Elm Tree Lane, Lextran’s public art display “TransLucent,” located in the downtown transit center, and the soon to be installed “Lexington’s Legacy Trail” at the Coldstream trail head. She is the photographer for the 2010 Horse Mania book and an upcoming handbook for the Speed Museum in Louisville, KY.
The sunflower images are photograms, which is a photographic image made by placing objects directly on light sensitive paper without using a camera, film, enlargers, or computers. Photograms preceded the use of camera and film, so the exhibit explores the fundamentals of photography. Some images are intact, some have been deconstructed and reconstructed, and some have the addition of paint and botanicals. All of them are stunning. Thank you, Mary, for sharing your vision with us.
