Lexington Downtown Development Authority
The Lexington Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was founded in December of 2001 to direct redevelopment initiatives in the downtown. Its goals are to implement and update the Downtown Master Plan, coordinate information, and serve as a resource. During my Council Comments this month, I spoke with its new executive director, Jeff Fugate. Jeff grew up in Bowling Green and went to school at the University of Kentucky. In his senior year at UK he wrote a research paper on downtown Lexington, so in his new position he is returning to a topic that has interested him for quite a while. He is excited about all the positive development of downtown that has taken place while he was away, and he believes that the foundation has been set to create an even more vibrant downtown. I agree with Jeff that with all the new energy being focused on improving our community is an exciting time to be in Lexington.
