Mayor Names Commission on Homelessness

In case you missed the Herald-Leader article, the latest substantial addition to my work as a council member will be chairing the newly-created Mayor’s Commission on Homelessness.  Debra Hensley,  long-time community activist on homelessness and many other issues, will serve as  co-chair.  Working with Debra and me to guide the work of the Commission will be steering committee members Ike Adams, Dean of the University of Kentucky College of Social Work; Mark Davis, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church; and Melody Flowers, assistant director for strategic planning at UK Healthcare.

The 31 members named to the Commission by Mayor Gray have extensive experience in thinking about and dealing with various aspects of homelessness, and they represent the full range of perspectives on this issue.  In addition, the work of the Commission will be completely open, with input solicited from all members of the community at all stages of the work.  If you would like to be on the distribution list for information, meeting notes, and resources, please send an email to lboggs@lexingtonky.gov and note your interest in the work of the Commission on Homelessness.

I look forward to working with the Commission and the entire community on ways to reinforce and improve upon the extensive good work already being done to address this issue on our community.  The Commission will work toward a formal report to Urban County Council by January 15, 2013.
