The Art of John Lackey
As you may know, I use the walls of my Urban County Council office as a revolving art gallery. Presently featured is the art of John Lackey from Homegrown Press. John is a former TV station art director who is now a juried member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen.
Homegrown Press started in 1987 as a traveling art business selling John’s designs screen printed on T-shirts and stickers. It has recently moved into the old Spalding’s Bakery Building on 6th and Limestone, adding to the revitalization of the North Limestone corridor. Showing at the gallery now is “Shine On: A Galarie Soleil Reunion.” This exhibit brings together many of the artists who had galleries and exhibited at Bob Morgan’s Galarie Soleil, a celebrated fixture of Lexington’s art scene for many years on Short Street, and former home of Homegrown Press.
Visit my office to see a few of John Lackey’s paintings, and visit Homegrown Press to see the Gallery Soleil reunion, more of John’s work, and John himself.
