Council Begins Review of FY20 Budget

Mayor Linda Gorton proposed her budget on April 9, 2019.   You can view a video of her public address here, read the text of her speech here, and review the full budget book PDF at this link.   In short, the budget continues to support good services and programs, such as mental health courts, while proactively addressing the projected gaps.  The Mayor highlighted a chart during her budget address, which illustrates the challenge.  You can see it below:

Now that Mayor Gorton has proposed her budget, Council can begin the process of reviewing it.  Council met with the administration on Thursday, April 11, 2019 for a budget workshop.  Our goal at this meeting was to engage the administration for a big picture discussion.  Council is now beginning to review in detail parts of the budget in 3 member budget subcommittees, known as Links.   The subcommittees’ names and members are below:

Finance/Economic Development

Planning & Public Safety

General & Social Services

Environmental Quality & Public Works

General Government

For detail on each subcommittee’s scope of review, please click here for a PDF.  You can see a schedule of the subcommittees’ planned meetings by clicking here.  The subcommittees meet between the Mayor’s budget address and May 15, 2019, the date all of Council will submit any recommended changes we might have.

Council will have until the end of the fiscal year, which is June 30, 2019, to review and approve a final budget.  Below is a timeline of the overall process:
