New COACH Fellowship Program Accepting Applications

In the summer of 2017 the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust awarded Lexington $700,000 to coordinate the Civic Outreach, Advocacy, and Cooperative Hiring (COACH) Fellowship.  The initiative supports community leadership development for young Black men.  You can learn more about the grant by watching the original press conference here.  A PowerPoint from Social Services Commissioner Chris Ford is available here for more background.  Since the grant award in 2017, city and community leaders have formalized the program’s structure and content for its 2018 launch.  The program is now accepting applications, and the Fellowship will begin in September 2018.

If readers of this blog are interested in joining the Fellowship or know someone who might want to participate, please coordinate with LFUCG Social Services.  You will find an FAQ, the application, and a flier on the web page.  Please be aware the COACH Fellowship will be a full-time experience.  The program will last from 9 am – 5 pm on weekdays and have a duration of 2 years.  Given the time commitments, the program will include a stipend for living expenses.  The first cohort is targeted to participants who have a misdemeanor conviction.  For additional detail, you can email COACH@lexingtonky.gov or call (859) 258-3804.  Printed applications should be mailed or hand-delivered to 200 East Main Street, Suite 328, Lexington KY 40507.  Downloaded applications can be emailed to COACH@lexingtonky.gov.
