Mural Dedication at Lexington Market: East End

East End Mural Dedication
I recently filmed a Council Comments segment about the Good Neighbor Stores project in the East End which you can watch here. The piece focused on the mural being painted on the Lexington Market:East End, formerly Pak-N-Save. Anita Courtney with the Tweens Coalition has asked that I share the following with you regarding the project –
Have you seen the beautiful new mural in Lexington’s East End? Sundiata Rashid’s mural “Know Your History. Then Make History.” will be dedicated on October 19 from 3-5 pm in the Lexington Market: East End parking lot on the corner of Race and Third Street. (In case of rain the celebration will be at the Charles Young Center.) Artist Sundiata Rashid will speak, residents of all ages will teach us about the historic figures in the mural, local children will speak about their aspirations and there will be a poet, a saxaphonist, free fresh fruit, and a Good Neighbor Store open house. We hope you can attend.
Did you know that the building the mural is painted on –Lexington Market: East End (formerly known as the Pak-N-Save)—has had a makeover? They have added a produce cooler, a Better Bites stand, and fresh Weisenberger Mills products, lowered some prices and cleaned up quite a bit. Save time and gas and consider picking up some of your basics there, supporting this store that is working to strengthen the community.
I join with Anita in asking you to attend the dedication and shop at the store. Thank you Anita and the Tweens Coalition for your work in the community!
