Mayor's Commission on Homelessness - Final Report

After months of hard work, the final report of the Mayor’s Commission on Homelessness has been completed.  You can find a copy here.  I am very grateful to the Mayor for asking me to serve as chair; to Debra Hensley, my invaluable co-chair; Mark Davis, Melody Flowers, and Ike Adams, the members of the Steering Committee; the members of the Commission; and the members of the general public who participated.

In addition to providing substantive recommendations, the report provides extensive data and detailed descriptions of the issues, discusses best practices, and sets priorities.  The Mayor’s office is in the process of organizing the Office of Homelessness Intervention and Prevention and has recommended funding in the FY’14  budget to support the office starting July 1st.  The administration has also recommended funds to support a more detailed plan for proposed projects, including sources of ongoing funding.

The original  Affordable Housing Trust Fund proposal, and the more comprehensive recommendations for funding from the Homeless Commission will remain in council committee pending further recommendations from the administration.

Please take some time to review the report and inform yourself about this important issue.
