Walkable Cities

Neal Peirce adds another column to his series on improving our cities by designing in healthy alternatives to automobile travel.  Pierce makes the case that more and more people are coming to see these amenities as essential for the urban quality of life they seek.

Lexington has been slow in the past to make this a priority but we are now working to ensure that any changes in our roadways meet “complete streets” standards that accommodate all forms of transportation, and we are adding steadily to our dedicated bike/pedestrian trails. The more we do to support and promote efforts already underway, and the more we think creatively about additional enhancements, the more attractive our city will be.
