Food Trucks Update
Yesterday the Itinerant Merchant Task Force met and continued to work on a proposal for Council review and approval. As you may remember, this Task Force has the delicate task of balancing the interest of peddlers, itinerant merchants, stationary vendors, bricks and mortar businesses, and residential neighborhoods. Members of the Task Force agreed on the guidelines for a pilot project in the downtown core, and on the hours of operation in all zones.
In the downtown core pilot program the Task Force proposal provides for stationary vendors (food trucks) to operate on public property from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am provided a 200 foot buffer is maintained between them and any establishment serving food. On private property, the stationary vendors would be able to operate from 7:00 am until 4:00 am. In adaptive reuse areas, stationary vendors would be able to remain open until 4:00 am provided that another establishment is open. In the remaining part of Fayette County food trucks would be able to operate from 7:00 am until 11:00 pm provided another establishment is open. The operating hours would be restricted to 8:00 am until 10:00 pm if the truck is within 500 feet of a dwelling unit.
These decisions will be included in the draft ordinance which will be presented at the next Task Force meeting on May 14th at 1:00 pm in the 7th floor conference room of the Phoenix Building.
