Lessons for Lexington from Portland's Long Range Bike Plan

Portland, OR has long been one of our most livable cities, practically defining how attention to quality of life can drive economic development.  Part of what makes Portland so attractive is their excellent system of parks and trails.  With 314 miles of bike lanes, they are one of the most bicycle friendly cities in the United States.  They have accomplished this with intentional long range planning over many years.  Not content to rest on their laurels, they have recently adopted a plan to become the first world-class bicycle city by 2030. You can read about the new plan here.  Our friends in Portland can teach us a lot about how to build on recent efforts such as the Legacy Trail and the Town Branch Trail as we work to become a more bicycle-friendly community.
